Peace, Care, Dignity.
Arnolds Rescue Center is a refuge for homeless or displaced horses, donkeys, and small farm animals.
Located on 90 acres in Brownington, Vermont. The animals have a permanent home where they can live out the rest of their natural lives in peace with adequate space, shelter, feed, medicine and love. Residents at Arnolds are allowed to retire with the dignity and care they deserve.
Arnolds Rescue Center also serves as a breeding facility for the critically endangered Baudet du Poitou donkey.
With less than 500 Poitous left in the world, our goal is to keep this breed prospering by growing the lineage and improving the genetic pool in the United States. In June 2020, Arnolds and the University of Illinois Large Animal Vet School teamed up for a very special endeavor. The Hamilton Foundation for Rare Breeds donated three pure female Poitou donkeys and the only frozen semen in the world. In June 2021, under the guidance of the University of Illinois, Arnolds, and Cold Hollow Vet in Enosburg, Vermont, the first artificially inseminated Baudet du Poitou baby in the world was born in Brownington. He was named Hamilton Hastings. Arnolds is committed to continuing this program so watch for updates on our pages!
